Legendary actress and singer Irene Cara, best known for acting in Fame and the ever-popular movie Flashdance, has died. She died at the age of 63. Cara’s publicist Judith Moose issued a statement, saying, “It is with profound sadness that on behalf of her family I announce the passing of Irene Cara.” She continued: “The Academy Award-winning actress, singer, songwriter, and producer passed away in her Florida home. Her cause of death is currently unknown and will be released when information is available.” Moose said, “She was a beautifully gifted soul whose legacy will live forever through her music and films.” Irene Cara followed up her musical success by penning “Flashdance … What a Feeling” for the movie Flashdance and the single earned Cara an Oscar statue and two Grammy Awards.
