The end of the beloved MetroCard is near. The news was given in late 2020, and  the full switch-over of MetroCard machines to OMNY vending machines will take place by the end of 2023. New Yorkers can relax for now and can still hang on to the classic yellow cards with the stripe on the back. Its truly a sign of the times as technology changes daily into the future. Public Laundry has apps for us to downlaod to use machines, robot dogs are a thing, and artificial intelligence is officially here.

OMNY was launched in May of 2019, and is easy to use as customers can just tap their bank cards or  digital wallets on the OMNY reader as they enter the train station, instead of stopping to buy a MetroCard from the machine or add money to it. It is said to speed up the travelers process of going places and is better for the environmant. Over 15,000 OMNY readers at all 472 stations, on all 5,800 buses and even at Staten Island Railway. Next is the Metro North, so get ready peoples!
