OSCARS 2023 RECAP

OSCARS 2023 RECAP

NO CRAZY MOMENTS, BUT THE OPENING MONOLOGUE WAS PRETTY FUNNY

So this year's Oscars was hosted by Jimmy Kimmel who I personally feel did a good job. Jimmy Kimmel reminded everybody he was protected by people in the crowd as the camera panned to celebrities (which actually made it funny.) Kimmel surprised the audience by bringing out a donkey onstage, Jamie Lee Curtis won Best Supporting Actress—for her Everything Everywhere All at Once role as IRS inspector Deirdre Beaubeirdre beating out Angela Bassett for her role as Queen Ramonda in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Bassett has spoken at length about her struggles in Hollywood regardless of consistently delivering excellent work. Angela Bassett was clearly upset about not winning for her role in Black Panther and it was extremely obvious by her not smiling or clapping. Although she may be seen as a sore loser by some, she was acknowledged by Michael B. Jordan by him saying "We love you Auntie." She deserved that award. An Indian production that had many dancers made their presence known by coming out near the end of Kimmel's dialogue warning actors that if they spoke too long, they would be dragged out and surrounded by dancers who were extremely energetic. Everything Everywhere All at Once seemed to be the winning movie of the night.

PERFORMANCE

Rihanna sang her touching hit "Lift Me Up” which was nominated for “Best Original Song.” She delivered a strong performance of the heartfelt ballad that was meant as a tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman written by Grammy Award-winning Nigerian singer Tems. Yes, Tems wrote that song. Who's Tems you ask? She's currently burning up your radio with hits like "Essence" "Free Mind" "Wait For u" (feat. Drake & Future) and "Fountains" featuring Drake.
