This week, IG continued to test its feature of removing “like” counts from public view in select markets in New Zealand, Ireland, Canada, Australia, Italy, Japan, and Brazil. By removing the “like” count from public view, the actual user can see how many likes he or she has, but his or her followers cannot.
Instagram explained that by doing this, it lessens the pressure for lesser-known users to get likes, bottom line.
“We hope this test will remove the pressure of how many likes a post will receive, so you can focus on sharing the things you love,” Mia Garlick, Facebook Australia said in a recent statement. Everything met with a positive reception in Canada, in May when the idea was first introduced. Instagram hasn’t announced any official plans for the "like" removal in the U.S. market, it might be the best thing to do for pressure and anxiety sake.
