There are tons of feelings going around the internet about Kyrie as of late. Before we get started let's talk quickly about the demands placed on him before he can return to the league:
The Brooklyn Nets have delivered Kyrie Irving six items he must complete before returning to the team:
- Apologize/condemn movie
- $500K donation to anti-hate causes
- Sensitivity training
- Antisemitic training
- Meet with ADL, Jewish leaders
- Meet with Joe Tsai to demonstrate understanding
Tweeting about a documentary explaining black history doesn't mean you have to suspend him. This demonstrates the same mentality the coach had which said: "the inmates can't run the asylum."
On the other hand, being a rebel on a squad that represents unity and not going along with the team's cohesiveness puts the whole team at a standstill. Don't get me wrong, KD is balling like a madman. It has been demonstrated time after time that superstar players NEED help though.
Remember Pippen to Jordan, Shaq & Kobe, (even though they both won with different partners afterwards) but there is a point to be made here. If one brick in a house becomes out of place, the house may not fall but the brick will be recognizable and unattractive. Kyrie is a great player but not getting the vaccine when his team needed him and the way the Nets were floundering on the court and losing games, it probably wasn't the best time for Kyrie to try and make a change in the world. We love the fact Kyrie is a free thinker but he IS part of an organization. And as one of the elite players in the NBA, who has a championship, and plays in NYC, his actions are going to be scrutinized.
So now what? An indefinite suspension? Who knows what's next for this superstar but whatever route he takes, we will support him but just wish he would get the Nets a chip!!!! Jeez!!! Nike has also dropped Kyrie as well.
